Superglue fail - a little boy got a new Bumblebee (Transformers) toy, and promptly broke a little piece off. Possibly with the help of a jealous older brother (older bro will insist that he wants something, and then be upset that what the small one wanted was cooler.)

I anticipated what would happen next, little guy wants instant results. Off we go to buy super glue, and while there, I also chose a loctite brand epoxy for use on plastics.

The daughter's ex uses lots of superglue, I suspect inadequate ventilation. So the boy thinks he will have the toy back right away, end of the matter.

I explained both, super glue isn't as strong, and the stressed area created by the force that caused the initial break could bring another break. Or the glue, since it dries in a thin, brittle layer, may itself break. But the boy wants me to use that, and sure enough, the next break is almost as fast as the time it took for the stuff to dry.

It's put back together with the epoxy now, sitting on top of a very tall cabinet in my room to cure for 24 hours. The boy is mildly sad, but learned an important lesson, the fast answer isn't always the best answer, and thankfully, it's rarely the only answer.

Not a very expensive lesson, but I hope it sticks with him.
