40 round PMags

What are your thoughts on the 40 round PMags for an AR? Are they reliable?
I know that many years ago, another company was making 40 rounders, but they just didn't feed reliably, so I never have used any.

If you are going that route, I would suggest the Surefire 60 round mags. The are approved for use by our military. I found them in the 80 range, they are metal, and will also hold up well. There is a mechanism to even the tension so it is consistent. The 100 round, and others are a bit too long for a prone position.

Or stick the the 30 rnds and buy some couplers. Or a roll of duck tape

A SSG friend who has done four tours Loved the 60 round magazines, and said if he re deployed he is bringing some.

Maybe we should start a collection.

Come on now Mr. AR, that is clearly a lower receiver, so it must be the mag release. Sheesh, am I gonna have to school you on ham radio next?

That is the bolt release. The mag release is on the other side (right side)and is a button. It actuates the lever below the bolt release. The link image showed the bolt release disassembly.

You are correct AD I did a quick and obviously not too thorough search. As far as builds...to include repairs of all sorts... quite a bit. .I was a firearms instructor in the USAF for 8 years.

I still wonder why the mag spring would weaken with longer round magazines. That spring has nothing to do with the length of the mag as it is a mechanical stop(below the bolt release) that hold the mag in with mag well.

Don't know AD, the instructors told us that and showed it to us in the t.o. it just said don't do it, not why not to do it..go figure it was written by and for the Army! LOL

40 round PMags function just fine, they are awkward to fire prone though. For my primary I keep 2 40's coupled have had it that way for quite some time and haven't had any issues. Personally I keep two of them for the first two loads, but then have 30's in pouches for reloads. YMMV.
