If you can afford them www.tyrtactical.com has some great products. I use to work with Jason Beck at at previous company(partnership) and he does some great work. He has 2 locations, one in Phx and one in Southern Pines near Fort Bragg where you can customize his gear.

The innovative approach Jason has taken with his gear to make it the most wear resistant on the market by using a patented process where they bond a 200 dinear Kevlar fabric to a 500 dinear Cordura Nylon. This design won an innovarion award from Dupont, the maker of Kevlar.

He supplies tactical gear for all Spec Ops groups including those "behind the wire".

His stuff is pricey, but all US Made!!!

I have been a little curious about body armor just because. I know nothing about it, or even if it is legal to own. I keep hearing different deals on that.

I would suggest buying from armslist, craigslist local only from Active or Former military issue for decent deals on backpacks, etc. A lot of times so called army surplus are importing shit from china by the boatload and selling it as "surplus". Drop me a PM tell me what you're looking for and price range and I'll see what i can turn up for you. I've seen a few nice bags listed recently and had good luck by speaking with the person first, even when not local and working out a deal.

I haven't vetted any of these sellers, but a sample of what's out there. You can't go wrong with Eberlstock or Mystery Ranch but they are usually a bit more expensive.

That Mystery Ranch is the old Dana Designs as I understand it. I always wanted one of their packs before they went belly up. $350 for that pack would be a good buy.

I am not really even sure what I need or want. I think a three day style for my work bag, but as far as a GHB or BOB, I am not sure. My Gregory for backpacking stays packed for the season with a few things to be thrown in should I ever need it in an emergency. As far as the car, I have this little knapsack and a range bag that could get me the 35 miles home. I would like something a little more complete, but the size of the daily driver is an issue.

I've got one in each vehicle, which sits there, and the primary big one goes in for longer trips. They can be / combined distributed post SHTF..

I would suggest contacting him/her and doing some haggling.. it's a decent price compared to new. But they do pop up.

It's important to ask on MR bags how it is framed, and if it is included. A nice frame is my preference.

Sleeping Bag, etc. I have a sleeping bag, tarp, rain gear, a shirt and 2 part hammock in mind with room to spare.

Even the old teraplane would be nice, but these look like a serious upgrade. When you carry 10 lbs in the pack alone, it has to be amazing.

My Gregory at 7 lbs is bad enough.

Why I went the extra is my back isn't in the best shape. This is designed to put more weight on the hips, and off the spine. It's also designed to hug up on your body once you have it on, to distribute the weight better. Those used ones listed up there would be just fine. You can shop and pick up a bit here and there, you see frames and packs listed fairly regularly on craigslist, but 400-500 is not bad.

It's only 3 more LBS and for the added support and comfort it is worth it to me.
