  • Help! I need a can opener!!!

A rule of thumb with a pantry, you can never have too many can openers.

But what if every can opener you have was some made in China piece of s**t made in the past decade instead of made in the USA?

I had four can openers, all made in China, all broke in my hands within the past couple of months.

One for the GHB/BOB, one for the truck, five for the pantry, one for the kitchen.

I have several cases of canned vegetables, stews, soups and Chef BoyarDysentery that need to be opened and eaten at some point in the next few years.

I NEED a GREAT turning can opener. Can anyone recommend a couple of decent ones or one really good one?

Never mind, I thought you were joking for a second. I googled P38 can opener and there it was.

I thought you were talking about the Walther or the plane.

Your fingers will get some very strange callus/ridges with the mil can openers, but they are good. Some lefties have trouble with them.

If you put one on a key ring, or into a cloth bag, be sure to secure it with some tape, small ranger band, or something. Otherwise they WILL come open and eat through your pocket and into your leg.

I have several P38's but like the P51 better which I also have several of. I also have a hand held Swing-A-Way, and two el-cheapo no-name hand held can openers, plus the electric one we use almost every day.

The Swing-A-Way is a good opener and mine is a little used vintage one that says Made in the USA.

You are ever so right! In 'nam we used to tape one closed and wear with our dog tags.

Swing-a-way name was bought. Original company is doing business as "EZ Duz It".
They're heavy-duty, if pricey. Then again: if you really NEED a can opener post-shtf it'll be worth what you paid for it.

We've never like electric openers here - so all we've had are manual openers.

Those boxes of c-rations we scrounged (FE Warren, Cheyenne) got us through the years when we were old enough to know what was edible, and what wasn't, but weren't old enough to be let at a stove.

My first taste of many things came out of little green cans that were packed for late WWII, or early Korea (so the same ones you had, just 6 years later.)

Apricots, yum. Sometimes the canned scrambled eggs and ham were ok, if you were hungry enough. The pb&j with crackers always went fastest. Wish I could score a case of that peanut butter now.

The can openers and TP (and sometimes matches and gum, but the cigs were always removed,) were pure gold to kids who weren't allowed a knife, and spent all day out and about.

                            I'll give the P51 a try also.

The Swing-a-way looks like one I used decades ago. Glad to see I can pick one up at ACE down the road.

                            Thanks for the suggestions guys.

                              This is my FAV.

It cut the rim of the lid and let you put it back on. No shavings in the can.

K hates it(she cant figure it out)

I love it(i am smarter than her)

Watch the video on the left side of the page to see how it works.
