BTW, they may not call it Hog County, but it drives me more crazy than my usual when I hear it called "Sumptner County."

I believe Sumter county's original name was Sumptner instead of Sumter. Many little communities have faded or are fading away like Alto, Gant's Pond (?) and even Royal are uncommon to most, even people that live in that county.

Never heard of that as an original name for Sumter County. I always assumed (and, yeah, I know where that leads) it was due to an influx of NYC'ers and Bruckner Blvd. Know Brooksville was originally Melendez/Pierceville.

Always do a double take when passing "Mabel" on 50. So small that the "Welcome to" and "You are now leaving" signs are on the same post. jk
