Sugru - a rubbery, adhesive, crafty, do-it, moldable, silicone stuff

Anybody ever use this Sugru stuff? I'm considering getting some to try for a few things, but I want to have some ideas lined up before I make the purchase as it does have a shelf life to consider (3x as long if refrigerated though, according to the company.)

If anyone already uses it, a review and some project photos are in order. Saw some cutesy-craft, back to school things done with it on youtube, but I'm thinking heavy duty outdoor tasks like some of the arctic trekking & canoe trip tasks mentioned on their site.

Never seen that particular brand. They claim a patent, so maybe it is worth some research.

I I have some black glop a lot like that. I am not sure of the name. It is more liquid, but I actually used it to patch an old John boat. It worked really well.

Another thing along the same lines, I need to find the old rods they used to sell at the gun shows. They were basically a rod of some sort of solder that came with a mini torch. I patched lots of metal with those. Really handy if you can find them. I gave mine to my brother because he is always getting holes in his ancient aluminum canoe.

After some research, I find a few potential issues. The largest of which is it is 15-25% barium sulfate by weight. I would strongly advise not using this on any form of steel (especially stainless) or anything else that would have a problem with high sulphur exposure.

Following that is it has significant percentage of magnesium silicate aka talc. It is suspended in a matrix so the typical powder concern is moot, but I would advise washing you hands after use. Once set it shouldn't be a problem.
