Thinking about MH370 I googled other lost aircraft and found this well preserved WW2 P40 that landed in the Sahara and had remained lost for 70 years , Cant help thinking about the fate of the pilot, as the radio and batteries were found outside the aircraft, suggesting he had tried to get it working.

DMH, weren't the guys like your FIL the ones who sported the patch with the flying elephant, or something like that? I seem to recall seeing a story on tv somewhere about those guys. Very interesting job they had.

Tex, that might have been the Vietnam era patch. This was my F-I-L's patch. China Star/American star with shield.
