Observe, does the typical boar spear in your area have the cross-bar shortly behind (or as part of,) the spear head that stops an aggressive beast from sliding it's way down the spear shaft at you? I've seen some like that, designed for hunting mean Russian boar, which someone illegally released in the United States. They have been breeding and being a huge nuisance ever since.

      W.Lynn,
yes the spear has 2 'wings' as a stopper for the reason you described.
I must confess, hunting warthog solo without dogs, does not really give you many chances to get close enough to 'stick'/stab them.
I have thrown this heavy spear at this warthog at about 7 m.
There is not really that many hunters hunting warthog this way solo without the help of dogs etc....

Other than Lodge brand, we have nobody else who makes good 'American Made' castiron cookware. If we want good castiron, we either have to buy new, or look for some quality pieces made by companies that are no longer in business.

What do you guys do for good castiron? Is there some madeover there, or is it all imported?

Observe, the mere thought of a school principal going hunting during school hours and then feeding the kill to children would cause many in our country to go into hysterics.
Our schools have become so PC, and guns so demonized, that the children now get suspended for using their thumb and forefinger to even make the rough shape of a pistol. If caught with any kind of gun on school grounds and you'd be looking at years in prison for having a weapon in a "gun free zone", and could expect to have your case tried (and be judged guilty) by the national media on the day of your arrest.

Tex I was at the local auction Thursday night and it never fails all this normal pots and pans and general kitchen junk is going for a buck or 2 a box then a bunch of cast iron skillets and griddles come up and it's 25 to 30 dollars a piece. The Amish jump all over it. I knew it was an older persons estate and figured it was good cast iron but wasn't sure so I didn't bid. I did get a 10 piece (new still in the box) set of American made kitchen knives for 2 bucks but no cast iron.

I wonder if I shopped the hispanic areas for an extra large comal, if I could find one like that? I know they don't all have a raised edge, but it's a piece of iron I would love to get.

Kickstand, man, I can tell you about lots of instances where I gathered the kids around during the skinning process and taught them wonderful practical biology lessons on the spot, unbeknown to me at the time inspiring some to became nurses and one a medical doctor later in their lives because of those experiences. All of them came to respect nature, preach conservation and spoke up against the culture of poaching when back at their villages, so we, ve done something right somewhere it seems! Armed male and female teachers at school were the norm during that time to protect every one against cowardly Anc terrorist ak 47 attacts on defenceless ones.,and it continue to this day as farm attatcts----google it for more info..(and now they rule the country and had shut down all the welfare schools grants and can not controll the murdering monsters they created.....) Times are changing and these mini dramas will never reach the main news........

We do occasionally hear of when terrorist thugs attack a school , usually with groups of early teenaged girls being taken hostage or to be unwilling brides of their captors . This appears to be more prominent in northern Africa, closer to the Middle East. We rarely hear from S. Africa, other than how much better it has become since apartheid was abandoned .

If only the PC whack jobs would understand that if every teacher and school administrator were trained and armed, we'd likely never have another mass school shooting . If anyone were to try it, they would meet the same ends as the jihadists did in Texas at the "Draw mohammad" contest.

Those times of attracts on schools in rsa seems to be a thing of the past now.

The brutal criminal and racist attacks and murders on isolated [white] farms are getting worse by the day......[do the research..!]

So many misconceptions and brainwashing in the mass media are told to uninformed masses about ,apartheid, that it seems everybody nowadays think that it was just bad--but for the student of the real truth,a different picture will unfold , so the best way of keeping everyone from digging too deep and maybe expose some puppets now is to label anyone mentioning or associated with apartheid as racist, white etc, etc.

Today there are more ' apartheid' in RSA than ever before but because most is black on black,[Zulu vs Xhosa vs illegal black foreigners from all over Africa =xenophobia is the new name now...] it is kept quiet as it does t serve the politics of the day...
More black than white South Africans are currently leaving the country because they can not stand what the current racist (black) government is doing..
As apartheid must be viewed according to liberals as only a white sin, me mentioning the words black and white here will probably not go down well with some that did not followed the context of this post.....

i agree fully with what you say about armed citizens, including trained teachers

Man, that looks like alot of fun.

I wonder how the big cats over there compare to our mountain lion. A hound may take several hours to work a trail out to where he can jump the cat. Once the hound does jump the cat though, the chase is usually very short as mountain lions have a very limited lung capacity and are unable to run long distances.

One specimen over here to nearly resembles a mountain lion is maybe the Caracal...

The most distinguishing feature of the Caracal is the long black tufts on the back of the ears roughly 4.4 centimetres (1.75 in) long. The caracal is often referred to as the desert lynx, although these black tufts are the only characteristic shared with the lynx. Its fur can range from tawny-brown to brick red. Caracals have white fur on the abdomen, chin and throat. Black lines run from the eye to the nose. Its fur coat is short and very dense. The ears are lightly colored in the front and are black in the back.
The caracal is the largest of Africa's "small cats." Males can weigh up to 18 kilograms (40 lb), and females up to 16 kilograms (35 lb). Caracals are about 40 centimetres (16 in) to 50 centimetres (20 in) tall at the shoulder. Caracals have a short tail. The male and female look the same. Its eye pupils shrink to circles, while other cats' pupils shrink to slits.
